You would rather not have ants in your house, because they are very strong and can destroy quite a bit. Digging and digging can loosen entire stones. What’s the best way to get rid of the ants?
Get rid of ants in the house naturally
I personally prefer not to put bait boxes as they contain insecticide. I always opt for an animal-friendly and natural way. Just killing colonies of ants can jeopardize the balance of nature. And all those toxic substances that eventually end up in the water can never be good either.
Since an ant always brings a lot of others, it is best to get them out of the house as soon as possible. One is on the lookout and the rest will follow afterward. They have a navigation system that always sends them along the same route. Try to keep a close eye on how they walk and interrupt the route.
Ants at the front door
A few years ago I saw a pile of sand at the front door. The ants had gotten in and were breaking the rim around the front door. I then put copper coins in the corner of the front door and the corner on the inside of the hallway.
This immediately helped. They stayed outside. But when someone came to the door, they looked very strange. Some were straightforward and asked why the hell there was all this money on the floor. 😉
Of course, it was also difficult to clean, first pick up all the coins and then put them back. So I went looking for another solution. I found copper tape, which was actually meant to be stuck around a flower pot to keep the slugs out. Since that seemed much more convenient to me, I bought that and stuck the tape around the front door. Especially in the corners where they entered and also on the inside in the hallway.
Ants in the kitchen
Ants come into the house because they are looking for food. These workers then bring this food to the nest. So you might also notice them in the kitchen. To prevent this, it is best to always clean up the food immediately and also to wipe the leftovers on the worktop. They like food and especially sweets such as drops of soda or crumbs of biscuits. They may also be able to find something to eat in the trash, so check it if you see an ant.
What ants don’t like? (home remedies)
Ants don’t like strong smells because it messes up their navigation system. They leave a scent trail behind themselves so that the other ants can find their way. But if you leave other bright scents on this trail, they won’t be able to find each other’s trail.
Some things that might help here are:
- Coffee grounds
- Onion and garlic
- Herbs and spices such as pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, mint, lavender
- Spray vinegar in water on the track
- Chalk: Draw thick pinstripes around places you don’t want them to go.
- These things can help outside very well, but inside you will of course not sprinkle all your counter and floor full of pepper or coffee grounds. Then such copper tape is a much more practical solution.
If they come in through the door, it is best to tape the entire doorway (on the floor). This year I only taped in the corner where I saw them coming in. But they kept coming in. The ants outsmarted me and found an alternative route next to the copper tape. Then I put the tape all over the opening and they were gone. The next day and a week later still. Golden solution.
