Rara; it’s Italian but not real pasta …? Gnocchi!
What is gnocchi?
Gnocchi are Italian dough balls. They effectively have a paste-like texture but are made from potatoes in combination with flour. You could add different herbs to it, but this time let’s stick to the basic recipe 🙂
Instead of potatoes, sweet potato, pumpkin, and zucchini are sometimes used.
In contrast to other home-made pasta, gnocchi does not require much skill or excessive patience. An advantage.
Did you know that the lines in gnocchi have a function? It ensures that the sauce sticks better to the gnocchi.
How to cook gnocchi?
Once the dough balls are ready, bring water to the boil. Spoon the gnocchi (not all at the same time) into the water and let it boil for about 2 minutes, or until the gnocchi rise to the surface.
How to serve gnocchi?
This special potato dish is tasty anyway, but will only become really delicious when it swims in the sauce and eaten with quite a few vegetables. Tomato sauce is the most obvious, but there are plenty of options to try. For example pesto, cream sauce,… Spoon the gnocchi through the sauce before serving.
You can cook it and eat it like, fry it in a pan or place it in the oven together with the vegetables and sauce. (see very tasty photo below)
