At this moment in Belgium it’s snowing and on top of that there’s ice. I just made a small walk with or dog Snoopy, because it was a bit of dangerous. But Oh so wonderfull! 🙂 Also I love to warm me with a glass of mulled wine. With herbs that give that wonderful wintry feeling!
I find the mulled wine from a bottle much too sweet, so I make it myself. Not least because I’m sure the wine is also vegan. And organic, not unimportant 🙂
Make it and enjoy with others.
Yield: 4 people
Mulled wine

Ingredients
- 1 bottle vegan red wine
- 100 ml water
- 50 gr rice syrup
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1.5 piece orange
- 0.5 piece lemon
- 10 pieces cloves
- 0.5 tsp star anise
- 0.5 cm ginger
Instructions
- Bring the water with the rice syrup and cinnamon sticks to boil.
- Lower the heat and add the wine. Don't let it boil again.
- Cut a little zest of the lemon and add it.
- Squeeze the oranges and lemon and add the juice to the wine.
- Push the cloves into the orange peel. Add this to the liquid.
- Add grated ginger and star anise.
- Allow at least half an hour to simmer on a low heat. So the tast of the herbs will be in the wine.
- Pour the mixture through a sieve, so that seasoning and peels are filtered out.
- Heat the glass and pour the mulled wine in there. Serve immediately.
Notes
For a sweeter version: Don't use lemon and / or add additional rice syrup
For a non-alcoholic version: Replace the wine with grape juice
